ABOUT THIS PROJECT

I had the idea for this work in spring of 2024, and sketched about 3 minutes of it in short score one evening. I let this music sit for almost a year before finishing the composition and fully orchestrating it. In between that time, I had composed very little music for winds and had finished composing music for a 30-minute jazz combo recital. I think stepping away from wind ensemble music allowed me to approach this with a fresh perspective and ideas when I returned. Since I let this sit for a long time, when I came back to orchestrate the music, it was so clear to me what I wanted this piece to sound like. We recorded it in June in Austin, TX  as soon as it was completed. To me, this piece celebrates the pursuit of novelty and brings closure to my time at UT Austin.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Skyscape envisions a futuristic sprawling city in the sky that slowly develops over the duration of the piece. The music relies heavily on minimalism, texture, and rhythm, beginning with harmonically static sounds that develop into rich harmonic passages. I’ve had this concept in mind for a while and completed the piece (and recorded it) right after my final semester studying at UT.

HOW DOES THIS WORK IF THE MUSIC HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN?

This is an ordinary consortium with the only difference being that the music is already completed. Ensembles and directors receive the same consortium benefits including one year of exclusivity and their name/organization listed in the score.

COST AND EXCLUSIVITY

The buy-in is $250.00 and you’ll receive the official score and parts on March 1, 2026. Exclusivity lasts through May 30, 2027.

You may request to have the music as early as January, 2026, however, the final copy with names listed in the score will be delivered in March.
